In response to the recent Code Blue emergency, the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Institute (SFFMI) rallied the power of community to provide warmth, meals, and safety for our neighbors in need. On Monday, January 20, and Tuesday, January 21, the Santa Fe Farmers’ Market Pavilion was transformed into an emergency shelter, welcoming over 40 individuals facing freezing temperatures. Over the course of the two days we were able to distribute 230 meals.

Behind this effort were 231 hours of dedicated manpower, including:

89 hours from volunteers,

82 hours from staff (and counting!),

and 60 hours of security services.

This collective effort underscores the deep commitment of our community to take care of one another in times of need.

A Heartfelt Thank You to Our Supporters

This initiative would not have been possible without the support of local government, local farmers, organizations, donors, and volunteers who stepped up to provide critical resources. A special shoutout goes to SFFMI volunteer Karen, whose leadership helped bring this initiative to life.

Here are just a few of the many contributors who made this shelter possible:

❤️ Food Depot – for food donations

❤️ YouthWorks – for preparing nourishing meals

❤️ Private donors – for food, clothing, and financial support

❤️ City of Santa Fe – for coordinating shelter managers & providing 18 cots

❤️ Petco – for pet crates, pads, and food

❤️ First Presbyterian Church – for providing volunteers

❤️ St. John’s United Methodist Church – for donating clothes, food, and drinks

❤️ Holy Faith Episcopal Church – for contributing clothes, food, and drinks

❤️ Santa Fe Animal Shelter – for pet crates and towels

❤️ Paul Werenko Construction – for transportation and materials assistance

This incredible collaboration is a testament to the strength and kindness of our Santa Fe community. Together, we are proving that in times of need, we can rise to the occasion and make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.

🙏 Thank you, Santa Fe, for showing up when it mattered most.
